Several images of speculated colorways of the Nike Kyrie 7 have been gradually floating around the Internet over the past several weeks, but the Brooklyn point guard unofficially debuted it in tandem with the unveiling of the Nets’ Classic Edition uniforms. Yet here we are “revisiting” the Nike Kyrie 6.
Much has been said and reviewed on both performance and on-feet of the Kyrie 6 and on YouTube, and you should be able to find a small number on the colorway “Shutter Shades” that I am blogging on.
First off, let’s get the tech details out of the way. The Kyrie 6 is designed revolving around a certain formula: An extra-padded tongue, almost SB style, and a cushy collar, combined with support in the midfoot. These characteristics are combined with a lower-to-the-court feel (the last is dropped 5mm closer to the court) and a 360-degree traction grip system. As mentioned by most reviewers, the shoe is snug and most of them opt to go half a size up. I personally went true to size and am happy with the fit albeit that I could not wear thick cushioned socks.
The Nike Kyrie 6 “Shutter Shades” was released in April 2020 and is inspired and a nod to an infamous ’00s fashion trend; the Venetian blinders aka shutter shades. These horizontally slatted sunglasses were popularized by Kanye West in 2007 and it’s known that the Kyrie Line do draw plenty of hints from the Nike Yeezy Line. This is our take on why this colorway dropped since I do not remember seeing Kyrie rocking the Venetian blinders.
Aesthetically the Nike Kyrie 6 “Shutter Shades” was a must cope for me when I got them in hand in the store. I love how it is dressed in a stark black upper of ballistic mesh for the forefoot and the use of premium suede for the quarter, while prominently offering a duo of signature details: a textured Hamsa heel piece that glows in the dark, and an iridescent Swoosh rimmed with blue trim. These two details got me sold and has your hype needs covered for both day and night.
Other details include pops of green and yellow placed around the lacing system and on the tongue insignia and the Kyrie Line continues to reflect some of his personal and spiritual connections. For example, some of the motifs appearing on the Kyrie 6 include the healer's hand, all-seeing eye, number 11 and his mantra "hungry and humble." Outsoles bring one final all-seeing eye accent, and combine a modified multidirectional herringbone traction pattern with Air Zoom Turbo forefoot cushioning for a responsive feel.
Being Basketballers ourselves and having been through that phase in life of just having a pair of shoes till it’s all bottomed out or torn, serving us diligently from our abuse on court to just heading out to the mall with friends. This colorway is perfect if you are indeed looking for that “beater” as its color scheme is easy to pair and coordinate with most outfits that you put together be it on court or off the court. Moreover, the fact that it has solid rubber outsole provides a better confidence on the traction that it will grant its user. Then there is the blatant fact that since its black in general, you need not be afraid of people stepping on your kicks as it can be easily wiped cleaned.
Now for my own bias proclivity, GLOW-IN THE-DARK feature on the carved out milky treated Hamsa all seeing eye heel piece! I just love it! This totally brings the shoe to another level of hype-play as attention be drawn whenever you move to a dark place after being under the sun or well-lit place. still available.
Furthermore, with Halloween upcoming, I can’t wait to break them out when I meet up with my pals as these totally suit the theme of a tad of horror with futuristic play. Am thinking of somewhat of a torn metallic alienish outfit or plain ghoulish masked with ripped top and denim. What is your take?
Conclusively, the Nike Kyrie 6 “Shutter Shades” is a great shoe to have should you be looking for a pair that stands out subtlety while still providing performance on court. The versatile color scheme allows for simple solid tee and denim wear and even playability with flashier outfits should you choose to. Do note that this may run a little tight should you have a wide foot and has been suggested by many to go half a size up.
